Quick Answer
EJU is the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students. Universities use it to assess academic Japanese and subjects such as Science, Japan and the World, and Mathematics. It is generally held twice a year, in June and November, and scores are valid for two years, but each university decides which session, subjects and scores it accepts.
EJU Subjects
| Subject | Main purpose | Score framework |
|---|---|---|
| Japanese as a Foreign Language | Academic reading, listening and writing | Reading/listening plus a separate writing score |
| Science | Physics, chemistry and/or biology as required | University selects needed combination |
| Japan and the World | Liberal-arts knowledge and reasoning | Used by relevant faculties |
| Mathematics | Course 1 or Course 2 | Depends on intended program |
Except for Japanese as a Foreign Language, subject language may be Japanese or English where offered. Follow the target university's instructions.
Does Nepal Have an EJU Test Centre?
The current official overseas-location list does not show Nepal. Nepali applicants should verify the latest bulletin and may need to take the exam in Japan or another listed country. Do not book travel before confirming registration eligibility, visa requirements and the accepted session.
How Universities Use EJU
Universities choose whether to require EJU, which subjects, minimum or competitive scores, and whether they allow pre-arrival admission. Some also require JLPT, English tests, documents, interviews or their own examination. A general EJU score does not guarantee admission.
Preparation Plan
- Shortlist faculties before choosing EJU subjects.
- Download each university's newest admissions guide.
- Map the required session, subject language and score validity.
- Use official sample questions and timed practice.
- Build academic Japanese, not only JLPT vocabulary.
- Prepare English proof and university-specific exams separately.
Scholarship Connection
JASSO operates an Honors Scholarship reservation route for strong EJU performers who meet the program conditions and later enroll in an eligible institution. Applicants request consideration through the EJU procedure. Selection and payment are not automatic.
