Japan International Student Admissions 2026 – Verification Guide

Updated August 2026: An earlier version of this article presented broad claims about enrolment caps, scholarships and work permissions without adequate school-level or official-source qualification. Those claims have been removed. Do not use an old news headline as proof that admission or visa rules have changed for your case.

What You Should Verify

  • The institution: Is the school or university currently accepting international applicants for your intended course and intake?
  • The application window: What is the written deadline for that exact institution—not a general social-media deadline?
  • Entry requirements: Which academic, Japanese-language, English-language and financial documents apply to your program?
  • Scholarships: Is the scholarship open to your course, nationality and application route, and who accepts the application?
  • Immigration: What does the accepting institution require before it can support a COE application?

Reliable Decision Order

  1. Read the chosen institution's official admissions page and current application guide.
  2. Check current Study in Japan, MEXT, JASSO and immigration information for the relevant topic.
  3. Ask the institution for written clarification if a requirement or date is unclear.
  4. Prepare only truthful, consistent documents and keep copies of everything submitted.
  5. Treat COE and visa decisions as authority decisions, never as guaranteed outcomes.

For October 2026 Applicants

As of August 2026, many October application windows may already be closed or at a final stage. Confirm availability directly with the school. If your intended school is closed, prepare for April 2027 or another later intake instead of rushing incomplete evidence.
