To work full-time after study in Japan, secure a job whose actual duties match a work-authorised status, meet that status's education, experience and other criteria, and apply to change from Student before beginning full-time work. Graduation or a job offer alone does not automatically grant work permission.
The Roadmap
- Choose the career early. Work backward to the degree, diploma, Japanese and technical skills required.
- Protect attendance and grades. Employers and immigration may review the study record.
- Build evidence. Projects, internships, certificates and language results should support the target role.
- Start recruitment on Japan's calendar. Many employers recruit well before graduation.
- Check the actual duties. They must fit the intended status, not merely the job title.
- Review the employer and pay. Stability, contract and comparable remuneration matter.
- Apply for status change. Do not start unauthorised full-time work while the Student status remains.

If You Have Not Found a Job
Official Study in Japan guidance states that eligible graduates of Japanese universities and specialised training colleges may continue job hunting for up to one year by changing from Student to Designated Activities. This is subject to conditions and is not a general extension for every language-school student.
Common Refusal Risks
- Job duties do not relate sufficiently to education or eligible experience
- The role is mainly simple labour under a professional-status application
- Contract, salary or company stability is inadequate
- Incomplete academic or immigration history
- Applying late after the current status expires
